Sam Webb MBE

It is with a deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend and Tower Blocks UK co-founder Sam Webb MBE who passed away peacefully on Saturday 24th September 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Sam was a passionate advocate for the safety of people living in tower blocks. His commitment to justice and empathy towards residents was demonstrated through his investigations into the Ronan Point disaster, by acting as expert witness at the Lakanal House fire inquest, and in his evidence to the Grenfell Inquiry. He dedicated over 50 years to campaigning for housing equality, steadfastly defending the right to safe housing for all. He was a nationally elected member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Architectural Association and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Fire & Rescue Group and always used his architectural and safety expertise to amplify the voices of residents.

Sam was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2021 New Year Honours for services to architecture.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time. He will be missed by so many whose lives he touched.
